Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will officiate the 2022 final between France and Argentina on Sunday, the world soccer’s governing body FIFA announced.<\/p>\n
Marciniak, who will be assisted by\u00a0Pawe\u0142 Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, will\u00a0make history by becoming the first Polish referee to take charge of a World Cup final.<\/p>\n
Marciniak was responsible for officiating France’s 2-1 win over Denmark in the group stages and\u00a0Argentina’s 2-1 victory against Australia in the Last 16.<\/p>\n
Marciniak has officiated games all over the world and even took charge of Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in 2020.<\/p>\n
However, at the full-time whistle Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was seen remonstrating with the referee while the Liverpool fans were less than impressed with his performance and took to social media after the game to criticise him.<\/p>\n
They vented their frustration over a series of calls made by Marciniak – including his decision to hand Joe Gomez a yellow card for a foul on Atletico striker Alvaro Morata.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
