Texas men’s basketball coach Chris Beard has been fired nearly a month after he was arrested on a third-degree felony assault charge for allegedly strangling, biting and assaulting his fianc\u00e9e in their home.<\/p>\n
“The University of Texas has parted ways with Chris Beard,” Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“This has been a difficult situation that we’ve been diligently working through. Today I informed Mr. Beard of our decision to terminate him effective immediately.”<\/p>\n
Beard was suspended without pay on Dec. 12, when he was charged with third-degree felony assault on a female member of his household by impeding the person’s breath circulation.<\/p>\n
The arrest affidavit alleged Beard used his forearm to choke the complainant as well as bit her and threw her off a bed.<\/p>\n
Beard’s attorney, Perry Minton of Austin, released a statement on Dec. 12.<\/p>\n
“Coach Beard is 100 percent innocent of these charges. He should have never been arrested. The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed. It is truly inconceivable.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
