Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> QB Derek Carr<\/a> said on Thursday night he will not extend the Feb. 15 deadline to help facilitate a trade.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that would be best for me,\u201d said Carr, who has a no-trade clause in his contract.<\/p>\n

The Raiders must trade or release the quarterback by that date \u2014 three days after the Super Bowl \u2014 or Carr\u2019s contract will become guaranteed and Las Vegas will have to pay him $40.4 million over the next two years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Because a trade wouldn\u2019t be official until March 15 when the new league year begins, a team could renege on a deal made before then.<\/p>\n

“That’s for [the Raiders] to talk about,” he said in regard to being prevented from talking to interested teams. “I’m just obeying the rules. If it gets to the date [and I get released], then I’ll be able to talk to all my friends.”<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old would have to agree to extend the mid-February deadline to ensure any agreements remained in place.<\/p>\n

Even so, Carr said a trade could be reached by Feb. 15, but didn\u2019t sound as though he was in a hurry to make it happen.<\/p>\n

The Raiders have not given Carr or his agent, Tim Younger, permission to speak with other teams regarding a potential deal.<\/p>\n

Carr, a three-time Pro Bowler, didn’t have his best season in 2022, throwing for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing just 60.8 percent of his passes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
