{"id":411893,"date":"2023-02-08T10:05:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T15:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=411893"},"modified":"2023-02-08T10:09:45","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T15:09:45","slug":"usa-boxing-to-skip-world-championships","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/news\/usa-boxing-to-skip-world-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Boxing to skip world championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"teaser-content grid-center\">\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\" data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">USA Boxing, locked in a dispute with the IBA &#8211; the federation that oversees amateur boxing globally, will not participate in the world championships this year, according to reports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\" data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">The move is the latest response to growing controversy surrounding the IBA, which the International Olympic Committee twice has twice been stripped of control of Olympic boxing amid multiple scandals and leadership issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\" data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">The IOC repeatedly has scolded IBA President Umar Kremlev for questionable elections, a failure to clean up alleged judging issues and financial irregularities, as well as Kremlev\u2019s apparent attempts to move away from Olympic boxing in hopes of controlling many of the world\u2019s professional boxing organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css font-copy\" data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">US boxing officials also have expressed serious concerns with Kremlev\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-411895 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/uzbekistan-boxing.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"382\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<div class=\"cb dn db-ns\" data-qa=\"article-body-ad\">\n<div class=\"hide-for-print relative flex justify-center content-box items-center b bh mb-md mt-none pt-lg pb-lg\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div class=\"relative flex flex-column justify-center w-100\">\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p>IBA\u2019s women\u2019s world championships well take place in March in New Delhi, while the men\u2019s championships are scheduled for May in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n<p>The world championships, which are held every other year are seen as the sport\u2019s top amateur competition outside of the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Skipping the world championships will not harm the United States\u2019 qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
