German club Eintracht Frankfurt fans have been banned from their Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Italian Serie A leaders Napoli after incidents in the first leg.<\/p>\n
“Eintracht Frankfurt were informed yesterday late evening from (European football body) UEFA that Italy’s interior ministry would issue a regulation today that bans the (Italian) club from selling tickets to fans of Eintracht Frankfurt for the return leg on Mar 15,” the German club said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“This shall include the entire visiting fan contingent of 2,700 including 2,400 in the visiting fans sector, that Eintracht were eligible for.<\/p>\n
“Frankfurt will comment further on this development once there are specific details of the regulation available.”<\/p>\n
The first leg in Frankfurt on 21 February had been categorized as high risk by police and there were some clashes between fans before the match.<\/p>\n
The Bundesliga side said the decision was made by Italy’s Interior ministry.<\/p>\n
Earlier this season, Eintracht, the Europa League holders, were fined after trouble at a match in the French city of Marseille.<\/p>\n
Napoli are leading 2-0 from the first leg. The second leg at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples takes place on Wednesday, 15 March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
