Matteo Berrettini has withdrawn from the upcoming Italian Open as it was confirmed he is still recovering from a stomach muscle tear.<\/p>\n
Berrettini picked up the injury at Monte Carlo Masters and withdrew from the tournament immediately, before his Round of 16 match against Holger Rune.<\/p>\n
With its recovery extending, doubts have been raised whether he will be fit for the big event – the French Open, which starts on May 28.<\/p>\n
Even if he is to get back to fitness, missing Rome is a huge blow for the Italian as it is the last clay-tournament before the Roland Garros, meaning he will miss valuable time for preparation. On top of that the Italian Open is a home event for Berrettini, who is from Rome.<\/p>\n
