Fernando Alonso<\/a> stated Ferrari were quite fortunate with the Safety car deployment as it forced all drivers to put the hard tires, which do not have such high degradation.<\/p>\n

One of Aston Martin biggest assets is preserving their tires and that could have been seen in the first stint with the medium, when the green cars pressurized Lewis Hamilton<\/a> and forced him into an early stop, which due to the Safety car made the Briton drop down the order.<\/p>\n

But according to Alonso, Aston Martin, despite finishing only a second behind third-placed Charles Leclerc<\/a> would have had an even better shot at the podium if the race hadn’t been interfered by the Safety Car.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite happy with the pace,” he said. “We had the pace in the Sprint as well, but today we showed even a stronger one, especially with the medium at the beginning. Unfortunately, the Safety Car came, and we all put on the hard tyres.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hard tyres didn\u2019t have any degradation, which is our strongest point at the moment, so I think Ferrari were quite lucky there because they were struggling a lot in the first stint, and then they were okay on the hard tyres. But, nevertheless, I think it has been a tricky weekend for Aston.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Alonso was optimistic about Aston Martin’s prospects as they once again proved they have a strong, competitive package that is more or less equal to that of Ferrari and Mercedes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
