Daniil Medvedev was eliminated out of the Madrid Masters after losing to his compatriot Aslan Karatsev in two sets – 6:7 (1), 4:6, in one hour and 40 minutes of play.<\/p>\n
Medvedev, seeded No. 2 in the main draw, started the match better and broke in the third game, but Karatsev responded with an instant rebreak. It came down to a tiebreak in which the Russian, ranked 121st in the world, gave only a point to his more famous opponent to take the lead in the parts.<\/p>\n
In the second, Karatsev needed just one break, which came in the fifth game, to finish things off in his favor.<\/p>\n
He lost just nine first serve points the entire match, saving three of four break opportunities against Medvedev. The two Russians finished with an equal number of unforced errors – 4 each, but the difference in winners was palpable in favor of Karatsev – 28 to 12.
