The Tampa Bays Rays have signed veteran reliever Jake Diekman to a major league contract.<\/p>\n
The 36-year-old has a 25-30 record with 15 saves and 3.96 ERA across 612 appearances in 12 years.<\/p>\n
The Rays are currently without closer Pete Fairbanks (out with an injury) and Garrett Cleavinger (out with a serious right knee sprain, picked up in Sunday’s game against the Yankees).<\/p>\n
Right-hander Chase Anderson was brough in as a replacement, but he had a rather underwhelming performances. That has led the Tampa Bay team to the decision to designate him and sign Diekman.<\/p>\n
