Manchester United have announced on Friday that center-back Phil Jones will leave the club at the end of the season after his current contract expires.<\/p>\n
Jones was bought from Blackburn Rovers as a teenager back in 2011 and was tipped to become one of United’s most prominent figures.<\/p>\n
However, injuries have plagued his stint with the Red Devils with the defender featuring only five times in the last 3 seasons overall.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy time at United has been nothing short of incredible,\u201d Jones wrote in a public later to the fans.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish I could have played more. I wish I could have given more to the many squads I played amongst. I will say, from the bottom of my heart, I did everything I could. I did everything the medical team asked of me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI never left a stone unturned in the pursuit of living my dream and having the opportunity to represent Manchester United on the pitch.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jones has made 229 appearances for United, scoring 27 times. He remains the only outfield player in the Red Devils’ squad from their last Premier League-winning campaign in 2012-13. After his departure, goalkeeper David De Gea will remain the sole remaining player from the Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
