{"id":436495,"date":"2023-05-23T05:21:54","date_gmt":"2023-05-23T09:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=436495"},"modified":"2023-05-23T04:54:01","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T08:54:01","slug":"nfl-owners-approve-proposal-to-allow-third-active-quarterback","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/news\/nfl-owners-approve-proposal-to-allow-third-active-quarterback\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL owners approve proposal to allow third active quarterback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NFL teams will have the freedom to include a third active quarterback on game day in case of emergency after the league owners approved a bylaw proposal at the Spring League Meeting on Monday, NFL Network reported.<\/p>\n<p>The NFL pointed out &#8220;integrity of the game&#8221; as the main reason for the rule change, which follows the <a href=\"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/nfl\/team\/san-francisco-49ers\/\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a>&#8216; debacle in January&#8217;s NFC championship game, where they lost their starting and backup quarterbacks with injuries and were ultimately crushed 31-7 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/nfl\/team\/philadelphia-eagles\/\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> because of that.<\/p>\n<p>From now on teams may designate the third quarterback if he is included on their 53-man roster, as practice squad players will not be eligible even if they are elevated to the active roster during the week of the game.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NFL owners have approved a bylaw that will allow teams to dress a third quarterback for games without having to use a roster spot on that player.
