Canada defeated defending champion Finland in a convincing fashion 4-1 at the 2023 IIHF World Championship on Thursday night.

\nFinland were the team dictating the pace early on, but it was Canada, who opened the scoring through Jack Quinn at 7:12 with a swift counter-attack.<\/p>\n
Samuel Blais doubled Canada’s lead in the second after the Finns had pressed hard for the equalizer.<\/p>\n
Despite their efforts Finland couldn’t break Canada’s stubborn defense and early in the third period they paid the price as MacKenzie Weegar gave the Canadians 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Teemu Hartikanen gave brief hope for the defending champions, when he reduced the deficit to 3-1 with 3 minutes to spare, but all to no avail as Canada were unfazed and quickly restored the 3-goal cushion through Tyler Toffoli, who shot on an empty net.<\/p>\n
