Napoli’s head-coach Luciano Spalletti will be taking an year off from footballing duties and steps away from the managerial role, the club’s president announced.<\/p>\n

Spalletti took over Napoli in July 2021 and finished 3rd in his debut season before leading them to a historic first title in 33 years in his second year after a dominant display all campaign.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis said he respects the 64-year-old decision.<\/p>\n

“He’s a free man, he’s given us something and I thank him, it’s right that he does what he wants.” Laurentiis said.<\/p>\n

With Spalletti taking a sabbatical the club is in urgent search for a new manager. Prime candidate for the time being is ex-Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique, who has been without a job after the end of the World Cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
