This year’s European Super Cup final, which will be played between Manchester City and Sevilla on August 16 in Athens, will be without extra time, UEFA decided, according to Marca.<\/p>\n
This will be the first Super Cup final in which there will not be two overtimes of 15 minutes in the event of a tie in regular time, but it will go straight to a penalty shootout. The aim is to save extra effort on the part of the footballers during a period when the temperatures in Greece can be very high.<\/p>\n
Sevilla won this year’s Europa League after beating Roma in the final in Budapest on penalties, but the two teams played extra time before that.<\/p>\n
Sevilla have also won one European Super Cup, beating Barcelona at the start of the 2006\/07 season.
