Rio Ferdinand expressed his disappointment at how his former club Manchester United has handled goalkeeper David De Gea contract negotiations.<\/p>\n
De Gea was supposed to be given a new contract with an estimated pay-cut, but the Red Devils withdrew their offer right at the end and came up with a new one, even lower than the first one.<\/p>\n
That left their No.1 goalkeeper with no choice, but to decline and as of today, June 30, he is a free agent as his contract has expired.<\/p>\n
‘It’s a funny situation. Whether you think David de Gea is good enough for Manchester United anymore is up for debate.’ Ferdinand said.<\/p>\n
‘He’s never brought the club an ounce of trouble. Never brought the club into disrepute. He’s an outstanding professional and a great character. He’s one of the boys. ‘<\/p>\n
United could still re-sign De Gea, but Ferdinand believes it is unlikely given the way the club has treated him.<\/p>\n
The former United player pointed out that this sort of policy is making more and more players leave the elusive team with ‘sour taste in their mouth’.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
