Novak Djokovic reached his 35th Grand Slam final in a rather comfortable fashion by defeating Jannik Sinner in straight sets.<\/p>\n
However, there was one moment that caught the attention of pundits and spectators and infuriated the veteran Serb.<\/p>\n
In the second set umpire Richard Haigh decided to dock the 36-year-old a point for alleged extended grunt.<\/p>\n
The stunned Djokovic approached the umpire’s chair, inquiring for the reason behind such call, which he labelled as one that “could have changed the course of the match”.<\/p>\n
“I felt nervous after that call, but I managed to regroup,” Djokovic said.<\/p>\n
“It’s probably the first time it’s happened to me.”<\/p>\n
Former Wimbledon champion John McEnroe showed his support for Djokovic, stating that it was a “horrible decision”.<\/p>\n
“He handled it admirably – way, way better than most players,” McEnroe said on BBC.<\/p>\n
“I would have hated if that was a turning point.”<\/p>\n
“Horrible, horrible call. Sinner’s ball went back in court and dropped foot from baseline. How much of a hindrance could it have been?”<\/p>\n
