The Detroit Lions’ new defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson was carted off the field on Monday’s training camp after grabbing his right knee.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old sustained the injury on day two in a non-contact activity.<\/p>\n

If the injury is serious it will be a major setback for Detroit, who were hoping to strengthen their back line and potentially challenge for NFC North this season.<\/p>\n

Detroit signed Gardner-Johnson for an $8 million, one-year deal in March after adding cornerbacks Cameron Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley in free agency.<\/p>\n

He had a career-high six interceptions last season with the Philadelphia Eagles after picking off five passes over three years in New Orleans. Gardner-Johnson has reunited with Lions head coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn after playing for them with the Saints.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
