Prize money and player compensation for the upcoming US Open have hit a record-breaking figure of $65m, the US Association announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
It is a $5m increase compared to last year’s edition payout.<\/p>\n
The tournament begins on August 28 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and closes in with the men\u2019s final on September 11.<\/p>\n
This is US Open’s 50th anniversary and the organizers will mark the event as the first tournament to pay men and women equal amount of prize money. Both champions will get $3m, compared to last year’s\u00a0 $2.6m. However, that sum still falls short of the $3.9m the winners received in 2019 in the pre-pandemic situation.<\/p>\n
The USTA is providing more expense money for women and men in qualifying and main-draw singles, doubles and mixed doubles and wheelchair events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
