FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Friday that the Women\u2019s World Cup has managed to \u201cbrake even\u201d after generating more than $570 million in revenue but dismissed suggestions for equal prize money with the men\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n
At the moment World Cup prize pools sit at $110 million for women and $440 million for men.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome voices were raised, where it cost too much, we don\u2019t make enough revenues, we will have to subsidize,\u201d Infantino said at the FIFA Women\u2019s Football Convention.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur opinion was, \u2018Well, if we have to subsidize, we will subsidize\u2019, because we have to do that. But actually, this World Cup generated over $570 million in revenues, and so we broke even.\u201d<\/p>\n
Infantino said FIFA didn\u2019t lose money \u201cand we generated the second-highest income of any sport, besides of course the men\u2019s World Cup, at a global stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMore than half a billion. There are not many competitions, even in men\u2019s football, who generate more than half a billion. Infantino urged broadcasters and sponsors to \u201cpay a fair price\u201d for women\u2019s soccer \u2014 \u201cto women\u2019s football in general in all the countries, in all the leagues, in all the competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
