He spoke in the wake of France\u2019s poor showing at the World Cup last month, where he did not take part. \u201cPerforming well at the Olympics would be a great story,\u201d Wembanyama said. \u201cI\u2019ll be present at the Olympics, and there\u2019s no other goal than gold. The World Cup was very disappointing,\u201d he was quoted as saying on Tuesday. \u201cBut I have no judgment to make as I wasn\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n
The No. 1 draft pick had decided not to play at the World Cup in order to prepare for his rookie season in the NBA with Spurs.<\/p>\n
