PGMOL chief and former referee Howard Webb has come to the defense of video assistant referee Darren England for not stopping the Tottenham-Liverpool game after realizing his blunder.<\/p>\n
Liverpool were controversially disallowed on opening goal through Luis Diaz after a bizarre miscommunication between on-field and video referees.<\/p>\n
The incident has caused major disturbance throughout the footballing world as many have questioned the VAR’s efficiency.<\/p>\n
Webb has become the latest high-profile figure to state his opinion.<\/p>\n
“I understand why people would ask that question.\u201d he said when asked should the game have stopped. “Actually, the VAR and the AVAR asked themselves that question too when the penny dropped as to what had happened, I think 20 seconds had passed.”<\/p>\n
“At that point they considered whether they could intervene to stop the game but they recognized that the laws of the game, set by FIFA and the IFAB, doesn\u2019t allow that.”<\/p>\n
