Paul Scholes has come to the defense of Erik Ten Hag by stating that Raphael Varane is not reliable enough for a first-team pick.<\/p>\n
Instead, the Red Devils have opted for Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire, a decision, which many will view as questionable.<\/p>\n
But not according to Scholes, who believes that the pair have produced fine performances, good enough to earn them the first-team choice on merit.<\/p>\n
“I actually think he\u2019s playing Maguire and Evans at centre-half because he thinks they\u2019re the two best ball-playing centre-halves,” he said.<\/p>\n
“How can he [ten Hag] pick a settled back four? We saw Varane play against Galatasaray and he was all over the place.”<\/p>\n
Scholes further elaborated that United’s problems at the back could be traced to the absence of number of key players such as Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
