Last season, Chelsea splurged \u00a3747m on transfers, with a wage bill reaching \u00a3404m, the second-highest in the Premier League. Despite selling players valued at \u00a3592m for \u00a3203m, they still managed to generate a profit of \u00a363m due to accounting rules. However, the total cost of the squad exceeded \u00a31bn as of June 30, 2023, following Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital consortium’s ownership takeover.<\/p>\n
Additional spending of \u00a3450m on transfers since June 30 is set to be reflected in the 2023-24 accounts. Moreover, Chelsea spent over \u00a375m on agents and intermediaries in the 12 months leading up to February 2024, the highest among Premier League clubs.<\/p>\n
Despite a turnover increase from \u00a3481m to \u00a3513m, broadcasting revenue dipped by \u00a39m to \u00a3256m after Chelsea missed out on European qualification. The club reported a pre-tax loss of \u00a390m in March, following a loss of \u00a3121m the previous year.<\/p>\n
To comply with Premier League profit and sustainability (PSR) regulations, which allow clubs a maximum loss of \u00a3105m over three seasons, Chelsea may need to sell more players by June 30. Investments in youth and women’s teams can be deducted from these costs.<\/p>\n
