However, the only way to do that was with the championship belt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was going to put the belt down with the gloves,&#8221; the fighter claimed during an interview. &#8220;But this is my story, and everything happened for a reason. It\u2019s nothing that I can do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When speaking with the media ahead of UFC 302 in the past month, Dustin teased the idea of that being his last fight if he defeated Islam.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is possible,\u201d Poirier shared.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out, that was his plan all along.
