
{"id":484163,"date":"2024-06-13T07:21:21","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T11:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=484163"},"modified":"2024-06-13T05:43:31","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T09:43:31","slug":"fa-to-fund-police-in-investigation-over-online-abuse-to-players","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/news\/fa-to-fund-police-in-investigation-over-online-abuse-to-players\/","title":{"rendered":"FA to fund police in investigation over online abuse to players"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The English Football Association (FA) will provide funding to the police to support the prosecution of individuals who attack English players on social media, stated the governing body&#8217;s chief executive, Mark Bullingham, ahead of the European Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho were subjected to online abuse after missing penalties in the defeat to Italy in the final of the previous European Championship.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, a British teenager was sentenced to six weeks in prison for racially abusing Rashford after the final, while a man who live-streamed himself racially abusing the trio on Facebook was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the past, what we did was gather all the data, essentially a package of evidence, which we would then give to the police for prosecution,&#8221; Bullingham told British media. &#8220;But this time, we&#8217;re going a step further because we&#8217;re actually funding a unit in the British police, which will then investigate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">FA to provide \u201cfunding resource\u201d to UK Police to prosecute online trolls who target <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ENG?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#ENG<\/a> players.
