{"id":484233,"date":"2024-06-15T12:57:12","date_gmt":"2024-06-15T16:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=484233"},"modified":"2024-06-15T12:57:12","modified_gmt":"2024-06-15T16:57:12","slug":"ioc-allows-14-russians-to-compete-as-neutrals-for-olympics","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/news\/ioc-allows-14-russians-to-compete-as-neutrals-for-olympics\/","title":{"rendered":"IOC allows 14 Russians to compete as neutrals for Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The IOC gave 14 athletes from Russia and 11 Belarusians neutral status for the upcoming Paris Olympics in the 1<sup>st<\/sup> list from some sports revealed today.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">IOC gives 14 Russians, 11 Belarusians neutral status for Paris Olympics in first round of decisions <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lEKXBAtPQd\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/t.co\/lEKXBAtPQd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Associated Press (@AP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AP\/status\/1801936474230735312?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June 15, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>5 sports &#8211; though not tennis, swimming, or judo &#8212; were assessed by the committee to see if the athletes had talked about the war between Russia and Ukraine or had ties to the war.<\/p>\n<p>Cycling, gymnastics, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling were cleared 1<sup>st<\/sup> as the other sports will be followed in the next several days.<\/p>\n<p>The most famous athletes cleared to compete as neutrals today are the defending Olympic champion in men&#8217;s trampoline \u2013 the Belarussian Ivan Litvinovich and the Russian cyclist Aleksandr Vlasov, who has 3 career top-10 finishes in Grand Tours.<\/p>\n<p>It is yet to be known how many Russian athletes will receive neutral status and will be able to compete in Paris from July 26<sup>th<\/sup> to August 11<sup>th<\/sup>.
