Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has made a powerful statement, declaring that he and his teammates will walk off the pitch if they face any more racist abuse this season. The Brazilian forward, who has been subjected to repeated racist attacks, revealed his growing frustration and commitment to taking action.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, Vinicius Jr broke down during a press conference while discussing the abuse he has endured, expressing that it has made him feel “less and less” like playing football. Now, the 24-year-old says that if racism rears its ugly head again, Real Madrid players won\u2019t hesitate to leave the field.<\/p>\n
“We do need to leave the field so things can change as soon as possible,” Vinicius Jr told CNN. His comments come after three Valencia fans were sentenced to eight months in prison for racially abusing him during a match on May 21, 2023. The offenders were found guilty of a “crime against moral integrity” with the aggravating circumstance of racism.<\/p>\n
Vinicius Jr believes that stopping matches might be the most effective way to combat racism in football. “In the club, we talk about it more often,” he said. “Not just me, but all the players agree that if it happens again, everyone should leave the field. Those who insult us need to face much harsher penalties.”<\/p>\n
He also noted that while racism hasn’t disappeared, there is noticeable change in Spain. “Maybe some fans are still racist, but now they\u2019re afraid to show it, especially in places filled with cameras,” Vinicius Jr explained. “We\u2019re reducing racism, little by little.
