Reed as the franchise wants swiftly to replace starting CB Carlton Davis III.<\/p>\n<p>Carlton and the Patriots sooner agreed to a 3-year, 60 million dollar deal that features almost 35 million dollars fully guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>This was Reed&#8217;s 2<sup>nd<\/sup> foray into free agency. Three years ago, he inked a 3-year, 33 million dollars with the Jets. It seemed like a huge deal for a footballer who had started 1 full campaign with the Seahawks 4 years ago, but he was among the best defensive footballers in the New York team.<\/p>\n<p>Reed has only 6 picks in 7 campaigns and has 21 accepted penalties over the past 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>D.J. began his career in the league as a 5<sup>th<\/sup>-round selection of the 49ers seven years ago. Seattle picked him up on waivers 5 years ago \u2013 under ex-manager Pete Carroll &#8211; as Reed started to reinvent himself.
