With Charles Leclerc finishing fourth and Lewis Hamilton sixth, the home crowd were left without the fairytale result they had hoped for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think today it\u2019s a shame and I\u2019m disappointed to not be able to bring a podium to the Tifosi,\u201d Vasseur said. \u201cWhen you see the fans on the start and finish line and the podium, it would have been magic, and they deserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83c\udf99\ufe0f| Fred Vasseur: \u201cAt the end of the day, Lewis\u2019s pace was stronger compared to Charles\u2019s from the start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the race, he fought with Russell, which meant he had recovered to a much better position.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZCFolUt0zi\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/ZCFolUt0zi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 La Gazzetta Ferrari (@GazzettaFerrari) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GazzettaFerrari\/status\/1964973679168946207?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Leclerc battled hard with McLaren\u2019s Oscar Piastri but ultimately finished four seconds adrift of the Australian and a full 25 seconds behind race winner Max Verstappen. Hamilton\u2019s strategic gamble also failed to pay off, leaving him a distant sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Vasseur was quick to acknowledge Verstappen\u2019s dominance: \u201cFrom the first lap to the last lap, he was there, he was flying and he was much faster than us. But overall, compared to Mercedes and McLaren, we did our job. It\u2019s not enough, but we did our job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, the Ferrari boss sought encouragement from the weekend. \u201cWe are close to McLaren today. It\u2019s probably the smallest gap of the season. Even in practice, qualifying and the race, we were much closer.
