The team immediately instructed the Australian to hand the place back, costing him six points in the drivers\u2019 standings.<\/p>\n<p>Though reluctant at first, Piastri later admitted it was the right decision. \u201cWe\u2019ve said many times that we don\u2019t want the chance of success just for this year,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cThere\u2019s a big regulation change next year \u2013 we don\u2019t know how competitive we\u2019re going to be, and we don\u2019t know how competitive anyone\u2019s going to be. Ultimately, we want the best chance at winning championships for as long as we\u2019re Formula 1 drivers, and we\u2019re both at McLaren for a very long time. Protecting the people around us that give us this opportunity is a very important thing. It\u2019s not a very nice feeling, I would imagine.
