Starting from pole position, the Mercedes driver controlled the pace throughout and never allowed his rivals a chance to challenge for the lead.<\/p>\n<p>Behind him, the battle for second place provided plenty of drama. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris were separated by less than a second in the closing laps. Verstappen, who began the race on soft tyres, was forced to pit earlier than most for hard tyres \u2014 a move that left him at a disadvantage toward the end. In the drivers\u2019 standings, Piastri extended his lead to 22 points \u2014 he now sits on 336, followed by Norris with 314. Verstappen remains third with 273 points, while Russell has closed the gap, climbing to 237.
