{"id":510738,"date":"2026-04-02T15:35:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T19:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=510738"},"modified":"2026-04-02T15:35:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T19:35:17","slug":"de-zerbi-apologizes-to-spurs-supporters-for-greenwood-comments","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/7sport.net\/en\/news\/de-zerbi-apologizes-to-spurs-supporters-for-greenwood-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"De Zerbi apologizes to Spurs supporters for Greenwood comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi has apologized to supporters over comments he made about Mason Greenwood.<\/p>\n<p>Some fans of Tottenham were against Roberto becoming the club\u2019s new head coach because of the remarks he made about the ex-Man United forward, whom he coached and managed at Marseille.<\/p>\n<p>Mason faced charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm 4 years ago, before they were dropped.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian boss shared the following on Tottenham\u2019s website: \u201cIt was not my intention to downplay the issue of violence against women, or violence against anyone in particular.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Zerbi also claimed that he had always &#8220;stood up for those&#8221; who needed protecting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlways in my life, I fought and took a stand to be on the side of those who are most at risk,&#8221; the manager added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who are close to me know that I never make a compromise to win more matches or lift more trophies. I want to apologize if I offended anyone&#8217;s feelings with this topic.
