Like all of his colleagues, Alonso revealed he was surprised by the timing of Hamilton’s decision, which will see him leave Mercedes midway through a 2-year deal and after 12 seasons with them.
“Without a doubt, it was a surprise, If I’m honest,” Fernando, who drove for Ferrari between 2010 and 2014, shared. “But not because he will drive for Ferrari, it was just because, from the outside, it seemed like Hamilton was very linked with Mercedes and very loyal to them and things like that. That’s why I’m surprised.”
Alonso’s deal with Aston Martin will expire at the end of the year, and rumors began that he will replace Hamilton in Mercedes, but Fernando shared that it is still too early for talks like these.
