The green cars were far away from their usual best in Austria and trailed not only Red Bull, but also Ferrari

Aston Martin have been accustomed to podium finishes this season, but at the Austrian Grand Prix that was not the case as they were far off pace wise.

Fernando Alonso, who has clinched 6 podiums this year crossed the line in distant sixth, which became 5th after Carlos Sainz was handed a post-race penalty. Lance Stroll brought the car home in 10th, which became 9th for the same reason.

Reflecting on the result Alonso said:

“It was nothing wrong with the car, to be honest, but we were not fast enough. The balance felt good, everything felt good, but we struggled the whole weekend.”

“It was the same last year, Aston was not super-fast in Austria, Haas was very fast and they were fast also this year, so there is a kind of similarity on the performance of some teams. We need to understand why like this next year we don’t come here and we’re slow again.”
