Ferrari legend Jody Scheckter, who won the 1979 title with the Scuderia, surprised fans with an interesting statement about Fernando Alonso that differs from the general impression of the Spaniard.
Scheckter, 73, agreed that Alonso was “very good”, but said the media made him out to be better than he really is.
“It’s clear that Fernando is very good,” Scheckter said. “I didn’t like some of the things he did early in his career. I didn’t like them at all. Alonso is good, he is aggressive, but I don’t think he is as good as some of the media think he is. But now he is doing well, great.”
“I’ve always said that if you still enjoy racing, your career can last longer as long as you don’t push yourself too hard,” Scheckter explained. “Maybe I didn’t do exactly that, but that is a personal decision for each pilot.”, Sheckter added.
