Fernando Alonso prefers his team to continue implementing the “humble” approach as the veteran driver is expecting a serious leap in development for other teams for the upcoming European races.
Aston Martin are having a fairy-tale start to their 2023 campaign with the team securing podium place on each of the 3 occasions, having already outscored their entire tally from 2022 season. They sit second in the Constructors Championship, trailing only to the dominant Red Bull.
However, Alonso advises his team not to get blown away from the success as major upgrades could swing the tide back in other teams favor over Aston Martin (primarily Ferrari and Mercedes).
“I think the first three races being away from Europe, it’s difficult to bring upgrades and things like that. But from now on, maybe we see the level of the teams changing a little bit, race-by-race, depending on who brings an upgrade that is good enough.” he said
“For us, it’s all happy days at the moment. We never expected to be on the podium, maybe even throughout the season, and in three races we have three.”
