Pierre Gasly has said that he and Alpin team-mate Esteban Ocon all have the same goals and wishes for the French team’s car for the 2024 Formula 1 season with one exception.
This divergence comes down to the two’s desires for cockpit size, which Gasly wants to be smaller to improve aerodynamic efficiency. Ocon, on the other hand, is on the opposite front, as he is among the tallest drivers and therefore needs more space to fit in the car.
“We generally want the same things, except for his very long arms. I don’t know exactly how he drives, but he needs more space than I do. We’ll see what happens, but this is probably the one area where he’ll prefer comfort over better performance.
“Other than that, everything else is clear to us and we are united around the same demands. Our work with him is very easy. I think the team will want to maximize the available cap space. I’m happy with it, I have enough room, but we have a tall pilot with long arms and limbs. We are currently in talks on this topic, but most likely the balance will be towards better performance,” Gasly told media in Japan.
