Goalkeeper Andre Blake is set to make a return to the starting lineup for Philadelphia Union this week.
The 32-year old missed his team’s last three games with a groin injury and they haven’t fared all that great without him, losing two in a row.
Head coach Jim Curtin expressed his hopes in front of the media on Wednesday that arguably his best player will be fit enough to feature in the game against Kansas City.
‘The hope is that he [Blake] will play on Saturday,’ Curtin said
‘He’s the best goalkeeper that our league has and we’re stronger with him in the group. So he’s a great goalkeeper, he’s been a quick healer in the past. Hopefully everything stays on schedule.’
‘… All signs are pointing to a positive return for Andre to the group on the weekend.’
Blake’s potential return comes in hand with a return from a national duty for a couple of Union’s key figures, most notably the Hungarian Daniel Gazdag and Venezuelan midfielder Jose Martinez. They along with Blake will be looking to end Union’s two-games losing streak.
