Shohei Ohtani turned out to be the hero despite a lopsided performance, which saw him give up five runs in the fourth inning. Nevertheless, the 28-year old had a game to remember as he yielded five run in total and two homers for the first time in 18 games.
After dismal fourth inning he recovered as he throw six innings of the three-hit ball to lead his team to a hard-fought victory.
Carlos Estévez pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
For Oakland Brent Rooker hit a three-run homer and Shea Langeliers added a two-run shot in the fourth.
The Athletics find themselves in horrible run of form, having lost 12 of their previous 14 games — one short of matching the 1988 Baltimore Orioles for the most April losses in major league history with 22.
