Anthony has decided to prolong his stay in his home country in order to address the ‘assault’ allegations that were made against him by his former girlfriend.
The 23-year-old was supposed to return to Carrington after being excluded from the Brazil’s squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru, but will stay in Brazil for undisclosed amount of time.
He firmly denies all of the accusations and will try to defend himself and reinstate his reputation.
“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony,” the club said in a statement.
“Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday.
“However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.
“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
The police are currently investigating the case in order to gather enough evidence potentially for a court trial.
