The Argentina Football Association (AFA) have made an official complaint to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee after the incidents during yesterday’s 2-1 defeat against Morocco in their 1st match of the Olympics.
A pitch invasion by Moroccan supporters after Argentina’s Cristian Medina had netted in the 15th minute of the additional time led to a 2-hour delay as the clash in Saint-Étienne was eventually resumed and finished in an empty venue.
Bottles, cups, and firecrackers were thrown at Argentinian footballers while they celebrated the equalizer.
The Argentina Football Association shared on social media that they complaint to the football governing body demanding the “necessary regulatory measures to be in place for an event of such magnitude.”
Argentina manager Javier Mascherano described what happened as “the biggest circus I have ever experienced in my life.”
AFA chief Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia has insisted that the fans who caused the chaos face consequences for their action.
