Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been a key transfer target for Barcelona for several months, but the Catalan club struggles to finalize an agreement with the German player.
Despite progressing in negotiations, the talks have hit a roadblock due to a mismatch between Kimmich’s salary demands and Barcelona’s financial constraints. Kimmich currently earns around €19.5 million gross per year, a figure that Barcelona finds challenging to accommodate.
Two primary factors are delaying any potential agreement. Firstly, Barcelona needs to comply with the 1:1 rule imposed by La Liga, which restricts their spending based on their income. The club has yet to achieve compliance with this regulation. Secondly, Barcelona is facing challenges in maintaining a balanced wage structure, which is set to increase significantly next season with Robert Lewandowski’s salary approaching €30 million.
These financial hurdles have made it difficult for Barcelona to meet Kimmich’s demands, stalling the transfer negotiations. The midfielder is one of the main requirements set by Hansi Flick to take the role as head coach for Barcelona this summer and the Catalan club is expected to do everything possible to finish the deal.
