One day after becoming 38 years old, Patrice announced his retirement as his franchise shared the news on social media.
“In the past 20 years, I have been able to live my dream daily. I have had the opportunity of playing in front of the best fans in the world wearing the Boston uniform and representing my country at the highest levels of international tournaments,” the star wrote to the fans. “I gave hockey everything that I have physically and emotionally, and hockey has given me back even more, allowing me to live that way.

“It is with a full heart and much gratitude that today I share that I am hanging up my skates and will not compete anymore in the NHL or elsewhere.”
Patrice, who was Boston’s captain in the last 3 years, triumphed with his 2nd consecutive and 6th overall Selke Trophy this past campaign.
