We will see a new winner at the world men's curling championship.

Canada’s Brad Gushue destroyed the current and 4th-time champion Niklas Edin from Sweden 9-1 in a qualification match at T.D. palace this afternoon.

In an interview after his victory, Gushue said he was not expecting such a high result. But they were placed to make mistakes after our great start, creating opportunities that we fulfill.

The player from St. John’s, N.L., and his partners Mark Nichols, E.J. Harnden, and Geoff Walker will face in the ½ final the top-seeded Yannick Schwaller from Switzerland this evening.

The final will be on Sunday afternoon, as the losing sides will meet for a match for a bronze in the morning.

Gushue earned 2 silver medals in his last 2 opportunities in the tournament. In addition, the Canadian has one championship, which he won in 2017 in Edmonton.
