Mark Cavendish will not be able to be solo at the top for most career stage triumphs at the Tour de France.

Racing in his last campaign, the best successful sprinter in Tour history had to leave the competition in the 8th stage. Mark broke his right collarbone and will need a procedure to fix it.
Cavendish evened Eddy Merckx’s record of 34 stage victories during the 2021 Tour de France, 13 seasons after his 1st success, but was not part of the Tour in 2022.
The 2023 Tour de France was his last attempt to become an outright record-holder after sharing earlier in the year during the Giro d’Italia that he would call it a career at the end of the current campaign.
