The Arizona Coyotes thought more than 25 years of instability would end very soon.
A “yes” vote in the referendum would make it possible for Coyotes to build their own venue.
However, the voters said no, and the franchise was left astonished.
“What will be the next step for the team will be evaluated by our owners and the NHL in the upcoming months,” Coyotes CEO Xavier A. Gutierrez shared.
“The NHL is awfully disappointed by the conclusion of the public referendum about the Coyotes’ venue project in Tempe,” the league’s Commissioner Gary Bettman announced. “We are going to discuss with the franchise what are the possibilities going forward.”
The Coyotes have faced vulnerability after shifting to Arizona from Winnipeg back in 1996.
The Tempe vote to approve a new Coyotes arena fell far behind, and president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez said what’s next for the franchise has yet to be evaluated, putting the team’s future in Arizona in jeopardy. pic.twitter.com/tCe57LhM7v
