The Atlanta team was severely weakened due to seven players receiving international calls. However, that is little consolation to the humiliation they endured against a fine Columbus team.
Aiden Morris opened the scoring for Columbus in the 12th minute, heading the ball past goalkeeper Brad Guzan after a rather fortunate rebound. For the remainder of the first half Atlanta were unable to create anything meaningful and were constantly on the back foot after high pressing from the home team.
Columbus efforts were soon rewarded as soon as the second minute in the second half, when Christian Ramirez doubled the lead. Philip Quinton soon followed up with third and pretty much sealed the deal.
From that point on it was a matter of how many goals could Columbus get past Guzan. Ramirez got his brace in the 64th minute and soon after Jacen-Russel Rowe made it 5-0.
Atlanta pulled one back in the 71st minute but it was a bleak consolation as Maximilian Arfsten restored the five-goal cushion.
It was certainly a night to forget for Atlanta, who had their hopes high after putting five past Portland in the game prior. They will be looking to get back on the right track and get back on winning ways.
