In 2022 Morocco eliminated Portugal at the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar and Cristiano Ronaldo was left into tears after the final whistle.
Many claimed it was his last participation in the World Cup, and playing in the next one, at the age of 41, seemed almost impossible.
However, Portugal’s head coach, Roberto Martinez, announced that it is possible for Ronaldo to play in 2026 as he has set a significant goal – he wants to reach 250 appearances with the national team. To achieve this, he would need to play at least another 3 years. Currently, he has 205 caps and has scored 128 goals.
Furthermore, he is approaching the milestone of 1000 career goals in official matches, with 872 goals scored at the moment and playing in Saudi Arabia makes it easier for him to reach this goal.
