Tennis world number one Novak Djokovic (Serbia) made it clear how angry he was with British rival Cameron Norrie as he advanced to the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters. Djokovic defeated Norrie 6:3, 6:4.
The reason for the irritation of the Serbian tennis player was not only that Norrie hit him with the ball in the left calf after he had already turned his back. Djokovic also noted other signs of a lack of sportsmanship from the Briton, pointing to the fact that he requested a medical timeout before his serve.
“I was watching a replay of the moment he hit me. You could say he hit me unintentionally. But it’s not so much about that… From the beginning he did all the things he was allowed to do. He is allowed to take a medical timeout, hit a player. He’s been allowed to yell ‘Come on’ in my face at almost every point practically since the first game,” Novak Djokovic commented.
“These are things that we players in the dressing room know are not fair play. This is not how we treat each other. He created the tension and I responded. I’m not going to let someone act like that and just keep my head down. I will answer,” continued the Serbian.
