Joel Embiid has made his mind to play for the USA in the upcoming Olympic Games instead of his home Cameroon, which has left a painful taste throughout the whole Africa.
The 29-year-old, who was voted as the MVP of the NBA season, announced via social media that he will represent the US in the Olympic Games in Paris next year.
Cameroon were hoping the Philadelphia center would prioritize his home country, while France also had an ambition of acquiring him as Embiid received a citizenship there last year.
“It’s annoying because many people thought he would choose Cameroon” a representative at the Cameroon Basketball Federation (Fecabasket) said.
“Embiid’s choice was legitimate and the reaction of Cameroonians, who are annoyed, is legitimate at the same time.”

Embiid was born in Yaounde but was being heavily courted after rising to the top of the NBA. When making the announcement on Friday, he said that family had played a large part in his decision.
